NH Mental Health Council

The New Hampshire Mental Health Council (www.nhmentalhealthcouncil.org) is a newly formed private, non-profit, citizens’ group providing collaborative leadership and advocacy to support the promotion of good mental health and the effective treatment of mental illness.

Description:

Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Executive Director will be responsible for the overall leadership of the organization. This is currently a half time position that we expect will grow into a full time position. 

We are looking for an individual with experience in a nonprofit organization management role who demonstrates the ability to:

  • advocate the mental health needs of New Hampshire
  • identify potential funding sources
  • acquire grants
  • manage a multi-source budget
  • manage a volunteer board and members
  • and communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

You must be prepared to act as the face of organization, interact with multiple stakeholders to carry out the mission of the organization, and manage varying tasks and timelines.

Requirements:
  • Grant writing and grants management skills
  • Ability to recruit and to maintain cooperative relationships with volunteers, consultants, key stakeholders and policy makers in New Hampshire.
  • Demonstrated advocacy and public policy knowledge and skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, relationship-building skills, and communication skills (written and oral).
  • Training and experience in the mental health field would be advantageous but is not necessary.
  • Proficient in Microsoft office including Excel.
Responsibilities:

External Communications and Networking:

  1. Identify, develop and maintain working relationships with New Hampshire mental health organizations and groups working for change in conjunction with the MHC.
  2. Lead the development and implementation of an ongoing public relations strategy for the Mental Health Council in conjunction with a communications consultant.
  3. Work with mental health organizations and groups to promote public knowledge of mental health, mental illness and suicide prevention.
  4. Support the Mental Health Council to identify and support effective legislative policy, administrative rules and regulations relevant to the implementation of the Commission report.

Council Administration:

  1. Identify and successfully pursue funding opportunities including grants and donations according to the MHC sustainability plan in conjunction with the fiscal sponsor to support the work of the Mental Health Council.
  2. Monitor the revenues and expenses of the MHC in conjunction with the fiscal sponsor and report to the Executive Committee monthly. Prepares reports and documents as needed.
  3. Communicate regularly with fiscal sponsors, workgroups, executive committee members and board of the Mental Health Council on status and progress of Council activities.
