Catherine McDowell was the executive director of the Family Resource Center @ Gorham from its incorporation in 1998 until 2009. She is currently self employed as a Project Manager and is managing the Coos Family Support Project which is funded by the Neil and Louise Tillotson Fund. Since 1976, she has founded and directed three other nonprofits in the Androscoggin Valley: The Family Planning and Education Center, Coos County Family Health Programs and the Gorham Community Learning Center. From 2002–2004, she was the chair of the Androscoggin Valley Economic Recovery Corporation after the mills closed in Berlin. She has a BA from Smith College and an MS in Organization and Management from Antioch New England Graduate School. In June 2006, she received an honorary degree from the Community Technical College in Berlin for her work in the community.
