"NH's economy is dependent on strong, viable and energized non-profit organizations to provide critical services and programs in the social, artistic, environmental, health and educational sectors.  This organization, as I see it, has the best chance at figuring out how to ensure the future of our non-profits." --Doris C. Burke, Community Development Manager, Public Service of New Hampshire

Doris C. Burke is Community Development Manager for Public Service of New Hampshire (PSNH), a subsidiary of the Northeast Utilities System (NU) and the largest NH electric utility serving more than 450,000 customers and operating a dozen hydro, coal, oil & natural gas fueled generating stations.

A native of Manchester, NH, Burke has spent most of her career as a Public Relations practitioner with a concentration in community relations.  In addition to the utility industry, she has been employed in the high-tech, banking and non-profit sectors developing corporate citizenship, contributions and communication strategies.

Burke first worked for PSNH in the 1970s as a media representative and special project coordinator.  In 1984 she accepted a position with the Community & Government Affairs department for Digital Equipment Corporation responsible for the design and implementation of the communications plan for Digital’s involvement in New Hampshire.  She then spent six years, from 1987-1993, creating and managing the communications plan for United Way of Greater Manchester including developing campaign strategies, ad agency management and special event coordination.

Burke re-entered the corporate sector with a position at Bank of New Hampshire organizing their contributions management system and developing a strategic giving plan more closely aligned to the Bank’s corporate goals.

In 1995, Burke returned to PSNH to re-develop their corporate advertising program re-positioning the Company as a committed and engaged corporate citizen.  She was promoted to NH Community Relations Manager in 1997, designing and implementing a corporate contributions program re-inforcing the Company’s commitment to community involvement. And, in 2001 she assumed her current position as the Company’s Community Development Manager bringing her expertise and background to the economic development community and positioning the Company as the leader in recognizing small business, local economy and creative economy initiatives as NH’s economic foundations.  PSNH is now ranked among the top 5 companies in NH for environmental stewardship, corporate contributions & volunteerism and sustainable community development.  With her guidance, PSNH has been awarded NH Business of the Year; two EPA Environmental Awards; NH Business Committee for the Arts Business in the Arts Award; and numerous Chamber, civic and charitable citations.

She is currently a member of the board of directors and Chair of the Communications Committee for the NH Main Street Center and a member of the board of the New England Foundation for the Arts as well as the Center for NH Non-Profits.  She serves on the advisory board of Hannah Grimes Marketplace (an advocacy group for the development of local economies) and an advisor to the NH Creative Economy Network.
