CCAN is a nonprofit organization dedicated to the development, education and care of Cheshire County children and youth during their out of school time hours. CCAN existed for several years as an informal coalition of after school professionals, who met regularly to network and collaborate on professional training activities. It was formally organized in 2010, and incorporated as a New Hampshire nonprofit corporation in March 2011, with the following vision, mission and goals:
The Vision: All Cheshire County youth have access to quality and affordable out of school time programs. The Mission: is to increase the quality and availability of out of school time programs for youth of all abilities through peer learning, professional development and afterschool advocacy. The Goals:
- All youth will be able to attend a quality and affordable program.
- All programs will have the resources needed to define quality standards and strive towards the best practice of these standards.
- The Cheshire County community will value and support all out of school time programs in the region.
- Strategies
- Provide regular regional and statewide networking sessions to provide professional development and peer to peer learning and support.
- Provide regular training opportunities for out of school time providers and youth worker professionals.
- Sustain out of school time programs through regional grant writing and fundraising initiatives under the direction of CCAN.
- Provide direct operational and program support for programs serving youth in Cheshire County.
- Serve as the New Hampshire state affiliate leader for the National Afterschool Association.
CCAN is governed by an eight to fifteen person Board of Directors, and managed by a full time paid Coordinator, operating out of an office in the Hannah Grimes Center for Non-Profits in Keene.
CCAN is affiliated with the National Afterschool Association, and acts on behalf of a broad constituency of out of school time providers, by offering program support, training, common administrative services, collective funding and promotional activities. CCAN will regularly assess the environment and opportunities for advancement of out of school time programs in the region, and develop strategies to be responsive to those needs.
Recently, CCAN opened an office at the Hannah Grimes Center for Non-Profits in Keene, NH.
