Assistant Teacher - Infant/Toddler

Community Action Partnership of Strafford County

Community Action Partnership of Strafford County is a 501(c)(3) private nonprofit organization established in 1965 under the provisions of the Equal Opportunity Act of 1964. We work with community, state and federal partners to assist children, families, low-income and elderly residents with their efforts to become or remain financially and socially independent through a variety of coordinated programs. Without the services provided by our agency, many local residents would be without a means to provide for their basic needs, including food, education, child care, utilities assistance, transportation, shelter and access to other services.

Assist Teacher in providing a daily schedule of activities for play, meals, sleep, and toileting. Responsible for classroom management, health and safety of children in the childcare setting.


· High School Diploma or GED
· Infant/Toddler CDA of State Credential preferred.
· College courses totaling 9 credits in early childhood education, including at least 3 credits in human growth and development.
· Prior experience working with children in a licensed child care program.
· Interest and desire to interact and work with young children and adults.
· Prior experience working with children and the commitment to continue training.
· Reliable source of transportation, with insurance (100/300 liability minimum).
· Computer Literate.
· Current or able to obtain and maintain CPR and First Aid certification.
· Able to lift 25-40 lbs.


· Become familiar with and implement the Creative Curriculum in the classroom as instructed by the Lead Teacher.
· Work as a team member to:
o Assist with the planning of daily and weekly lesson plans.
o Participate in the daily activities planned for the children.
o Assist in individual child assessment and individualized planning.
o Assist in the daily classroom routine (i.e. helping children brush their teeth, go to the bathroom, eat lunch, and clean the classroom).
o Assist & facilitate children in their exploration and activities.
o Discuss and become familiar with the Center's policies & procedures and Child Care Licensing Rules.
o Consult with the Teacher when a problem arises.
· Greet parents at arrival and departure times.
· Participate in Center Open Houses and fund raising activities.
· Assist in writing child progress reports and participate in parent conferences.
· Attend monthly Building Meetings and scheduled in-service trainings.
· Assume the Teacher's responsibilities when the Teacher is absent.
· Maintain confidentiality.
· Report any problems to the Center Director.

  Maintain and model good hygiene, appropriate dress (neat, clean and modest), and professional behavior to parents, staff and the community.
· Commitment to actively supporting Family Engagement and School Rediness.
· Maintain a positive and productive attitude regarding the Center and the CAP Agency when interacting both within the program and with the greater community.
